Boron Dala is a bamboo based container and is decorated with lines drawn with sindoor (vermilion). It is used to greet and bless the newly weds in Bengali tradition. Ingredients: paddy, grass, sandal, turmeric, flowers, fruits, curd, ghee, gold, silver, copper, conch shell, ‘chamor’ and cloth.
is a ceremony in which five or seven married women of the household grind turmeric with mortar and pestle and anoint the bride with turmeric paste. Gaye Holud is also celebrated on groom's side.
The bride, usually seated on a low wooden stool called pidi, is lifted by her brothers and is taken round the groom in seven complete circles. The significance of this is that they are bounded securely to each other.
After the circles are completed, while the bride is sitting high on the piri, the groom and her exchange garlands, three times. This is the first step to them accepting one another for life.
Topor and the Mukut
The Topor and the Mukut are mandatory items to any Bengali wedding. The groom wears the headgear which is known as Topor and the bride adorns the headwear called the Mukut. These head accessories are made up of Sholapith (a milky white spongy plant which is used in making crafts ) and are white in color.
